Board of Directors

Dedication. Expertise. Passion.

Westernport Heritage Society

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the WHS, composed of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about preserving and celebrating our shared history. Our board members come from a variety of backgrounds—history, architecture, law, education, business, and nonprofit leadership—but all share a commitment to protecting and promoting the cultural and historical heritage of our community.

Who They Are:

The board is made up of local leaders, historians, preservation advocates, and professionals who bring diverse skills and perspectives to guide the society’s mission. Many have deep personal or professional ties to the region’s heritage and serve as stewards of its legacy.

What They Do:

The Board of Directors is responsible for the strategic direction, financial health, and long-term success of the heritage society. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Preserving Our Past: Overseeing programs and initiatives that protect historic sites, artifacts, and traditions.

  • Strategic Leadership: Setting goals and priorities that align with the society’s mission and the evolving needs of the community.

  • Financial Stewardship: Ensuring responsible management of funds, approving budgets, and supporting fundraising efforts.

  • Community Engagement: Building awareness, supporting outreach programs, and serving as ambassadors to the public and stakeholders.

  • Organizational Oversight: Providing guidance to staff and volunteers, approving policies, and ensuring the society operates ethically and effectively.

Through their service, the board ensures that the WHS, remains a vibrant, trusted resource for education, inspiration, and preservation.

The Westernport Heritage Society solely relies on the generous donations, from all over the country! OUR STORY

The Westernport Heritage Society was established in October 1996 by Milt Hart, Jack Fazenbaker, Don DeVore, Eleanor Laffey, Harley Rothbotham & wife, and Sara Jane Albright. We are committed to safeguarding the rich history of Westernport, MD, and the tri - towns region. We have two museums, a Western Maryland Railroad Station Museum and a museum located in the building that Dr. Neil Williams had his chiropractic practice in. Both with guided tours, an online and in person gift shop, and virtual tours! We stand as the premier historical society and museum in Westernport, MD.
